Make Your Own Soda and Pretzels at Brewbakers
One of the fun things our Surf City Family kids experienced this summer was at Brewbakers, where they made their own soda and pretzels! Rob the Brewer was on hand to help the kids. By the way, he’s also the same guy that helps out grown-ups brew craft beer using recipes in this big binder of recipes they have at Brewbakers.Rob showed the kids, step by step, how to make the soda – measuring out the ingredients including root beer extract, syrup, yeast and cold water. The fun began when the kids were tasked with “rolling out the barrel” outside the brewery.
After a few minutes, the kids went back inside to knead the dough for pretzels. By the time they finished making their pretzels, it was time to bottle the soda. Each child was given two bottles to take home.
It was a great experience for both the kids and grown-ups. We even had some time to chat with Owner Manuel Florence and Sales Manager Sarah Stevenson, who shared some of the changes they made to Brewbakers when Manuel bought the business, which started at the same location in 1996. All good things!
