Surfer Girl Kalohe Danbara: My Huntington Beach

Kalohe Danbara, 12, is an upcoming local surfer. Born in North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii, she shares with us her Huntington Beach favorites.

Surf City Family (SCF): How long have you lived in Huntington Beach?
Kalohe Danbara (KD): 9yrs. My parents moved here from Hawaii for my dad’s job.

SCF: What do you like best about living here?
KD: I love surfing HB Pier…it’s always got waves. It’s probably the most consistent break in all of California. It gets really good. And even when there is no real swell, the whole coast can be flat…but southside or northside will still have fun rideable wave, which is super important, especially when you train everyday.

SCF: Name your favorite place to get breakfast?
KD: Banzai Bowls. It’s on 5th Street, Downtown HB

SCF: Best place for dining out on a special occasion?
KD:Duke’s at HB Pier

SCF: Favorite park/beach and why?
KD:Southside, HB Pier and Vans Skate Park

SCF: Do you have a secret/tip to give anyone who wants to visit/live in Huntington Beach? What is it?
KD: Visitors better find a park spot early in the lots in the summer. Visiting surfers should go surf Newport….lol, jk;) Also, remember: US Open of Surfing 2015 is on July 25 – August 2.

Kalohe adds:
1) Pick up your trash!!!

2) Eat and shop at local businesses!!!

3) Call my dad for surf lessons. Beginner level to young competitors.
