My HB: Photographer Lauren Gruel of Slapfish Restaurant
Lauren Gruel is the fun-loving and talented “Mama Bear” at Slapfish Restaurant. If you drool over Slapfish’s Instagram feed, that’s because of Lauren’s mad skills as a photographer. We welcome Lauren (and the Gruel Family – Chef Andrew, Jaden and Willy) to our Surf City Family! She will be contributing articles and photos to our site soon.
We asked her about her Huntington Beach favorites!
Surf City Family (SCF): How long have you lived in Huntington Beach?
Lauren Gruel (LG): I have lived in HB for 22 years! I wouldn’t want it any other way.
SCF: What do you like best about living here?
LG: What is there not to like? I LOVE everything about living here.
SCF: Name your favorite place to get breakfast?
LG: Hands down HB Bread Crumb Ohana Cafe. BEST FRENCH TOAST EVER!

LG: Andrew and I are obsessed with Hashigo Sushi; we go there on 99% of our date nights! It’s located in 5 Points Plaza. Best sushi in town in my opinion.
SCF: Favorite park/beach and why?
LG: We love dog beach! My kids love watching all of the dogs running around.
SCF: Do you have a secret/tip to give anyone who wants to visit/live in Huntington Beach?
LG: If you want to move here, I suggest moving downtown, (because) you have Main Street, which is great for those of you that are new to town. There is so much to do/see. Another bonus is that you are within walking distance of all the beaches (and bars lol).
