Free Summer Workshops at Armstrong Garden Centers
I recently had the pleasure of attending a Succulent Garden-making class at Armstrong Garden Center in San Juan Capistrano. It was so much fun! And guess what, the class was free. I got excited to find out all Armstrong Garden Centers offer various free classes, which meant our very own Armstrong Garden Center, located right next to Huntington Beach Central Park here in Huntington Beach had them too!

Armstrong Garden Centers scheduled activities for June 2018:
- Wednesday, June 13 at 10:00 a.m. – Free Kids’ Class – Intro to Gardening – Plant a sunflower! Dig right in and get a jump start on learning garden basics. All ages and levels of gardener are welcome to join. Kid’s Classes only available at select locations: Monrovia, Westchester, Torrance, Temecula, Tustin, Encinitas, Morena, Anaheim Hills, Thousand Oaks, San Juan Capistrano.
- Saturday, June 16 at 9:00 a.m. – Rose Care – Act now to keep beautiful blooms coming all summer long. Armstrong experts will cover deadheading, feeding and general care for healthy roses.
- Wednesday, June 20 at 10:00 a.m. – Free Kids’ Class – Worms – Get hands on with some wiggly worms while learning why they are important to the soil and their role in helping plants grow. Kid’s Classes only available at select locations: Monrovia, Westchester, Torrance, Temecula, Tustin, Encinitas, Morena, Anaheim Hills, Thousand Oaks, San Juan Capistrano.
- Saturday, June 23 at 9:00 a.m. – Tropical Garden – Our plants experts will display and teach you about the best tropical plants for your neighborhood. There are many colorful choices to plant now!
- Wednesday, June 27 at 10:00 a.m. – Free Kids’ Class – Butterflies – Make a butterfly feeder to take home and learn about the life cycle of butterflies and how they help flowers bloom. Kid’s Classes only available at select locations: Monrovia, Westchester, Torrance, Temecula, Tustin, Encinitas, Morena, Anaheim Hills, Thousand Oaks, San Juan Capistrano

- Saturday, July 7 at 9:00 a.m. – Growing Succulents – Waterwise succulents and cacti are some of the easiest plants to grow. Our experts will give you tips to keep them healthy, happy and beautiful.
- Wednesday, July 11 at 10:00 a.m. – Free Kids’ Class – Birds – Gardens provide food and habitat for birds. Birds help gardens grow, learn how and make a feeder to take home. Kid’s Classes only available at select locations: Monrovia, Westchester, Torrance, Temecula, Tustin, Encinitas, Morena, Anaheim Hills, Thousand Oaks, San Juan Capistrano.
- Wednesday, July 18 at 10:00 a.m. – Free Kids’ Class – Garden Scavenger Hunt – Participate in a garden center scavenger hunt while exploring all the sights, smells, sounds, and sensations a garden can offer. Child must be accompanied by an adult. Kid’s Classes only available at select locations: Monrovia, Westchester, Torrance, Temecula, Tustin, Encinitas, Morena, Anaheim Hills, Thousand Oaks, San Juan Capistrano.
- Saturday, July 21 at 9:00 a.m. – Waterwise Gardening – Have a beautiful, lush garden and save water too! Learn which plants are best for water-wise gardening and simple techniques to ensure your stays healthy and beautiful.
- Saturday, July 28 at 9:00 a.m. – Lavender Varieties – Lavenders are perfectly suited for California gardens. Learn about different varieties and their uses. Plus, instructions on pruning and year-round care.
- Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. – Lavender Days – Lavenders are perfectly suited for California gardens. On Saturday at 9:00 a.m., learn about different Lavender varieties and their uses. Plus, instructions on pruning and year-round care.
Each class is instructed by a nursery professional who will offer timely gardening advice and hands-on demonstrations. Armstrong Garden Centers also offers free garden talks from its team of experts for local gardening clubs, homeowners associations and other community groups.
