Hatch Chile Roasting Event at HB Ralph’s
September 9, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
Raise your hand if you love Hatch Chiles! Frieda’s Specialty Produce has partnered with Ralphs for the past seven years to bring the authentic New Mexico Hatch Chile experience to Southern California. They just held a roasting event at Ralph’s on Goldenwest and have scheduled another event on September 9th at Ralph’s on Warner Ave. After all, there is nothing quite like the aroma of 25 pounds of fresh Hatch Chiles being roasted over an open flame!
On Sunday, September 9th, they’ll be roasting peppers to order on a first-come, first-served basis 25 lbs. roasted chiles for $24.99, and 10 lbs. for $16.99.
But what are Hatch Chiles? Hatch Chiles are zesty peppers with bold flavor and heat levels that range from mild to hot. They’re available for a limited time only (August through September) and are exclusively grown in Hatch, New Mexico. Roasting or grilling brings out an even more intense flavor. It’s the unique flavor that draws dedicated fans (aka chile heads) to drive across town to buy them by the case to freeze for the rest of the year.
Roasted Hatch Chiles freeze very well for up to one year and don’t take up that much room in your freezer. Besides, this is the one time a year you’re getting the fresh stuff! But we totally understand if you don’t want to buy the 10 or 25 lb. box…and yes, un-roasted Hatch Peppers are available in the store for 99 cents a pound. You can roast them at home over the grill, on a gas stove, or under a broiler.
Hatch Chiles add bold, zesty flavor to everything from scrambled eggs, burgers, and mac and cheese, to chilis, stews, and even apple pies! They’re the perfect chiles for chiles rellenos and other stuffed pepper recipes, and they make great chile verde sauces. You can even infuse them in tequila to make spicy cocktails!
